Moving with Balance - Mindful Move Groove

The Lion of Summer prepares to take his leave,
We move ever closer to Autumnal Equinox.

With FUN and MINDFUL body awareness , we continue to explore our capacity for boldness, strength and power as we Mindful Move Groove while also starting to shift our focus to moving more with the energies of Harvest & Recuperation.

Mindful Move Groove is an invitation for you to join with a group of folks who are all committed to moving more mindfully and expanding their choices of physical movement. Beginners and all levels of movement abilities welcome!

Each MMG starts with a gentle somatic warm-up inspired by an intention (see below) and is often followed by fun, choreographed movement to upbeat, familiar music.

All the moves we make in MMG are designed to enhance resilience, strength, balance, mood and body awareness without high speed or high intensity movement.

Although we often play with a body of familiar choreographic work and music, each session is also unique and appropriate for any new-comers because Victoria adjusts the material on the fly to meet the needs and the interests of the participants present.

To find out more about what is expected, please visit the Embodiment website here or visit Victoria's blog here

Embodiment Opportunities at Pagan Pride

I will be offering two free workshops at Columbia Pagan Pride

Join me in the Stars Area of Peace Park on Sunday for these two opportunities to move, explore and deepen your personal experience of tarot and chanting -

1 - 2:15 Embodying the Tarot - Moving the Court: an educational and energetic exploration of the Court Cards of the Tarot - inspired by the writings of Vicki Noble, creator of the MotherPeace deck, and the mystical, movement philosopher Rudolf Laban.

2:30 - 3:20 Embodied Chanting Sound - whether song, chant, outburst or conversation - is a shared vibration of the body. Sound is made by moving thoughts, emotions, sensations, inspirations from the abstract of the internal body into an experience that connects one to the external world. Embodied Chanting supports the experience of the whole body's involvement in the act of moving vocal energy within our Selves, our community and with Spirit.

TranceforMotion: Dancing with a Bold Heart

TranceforMotion: Dancing with a Bold Heart

Trance. Form. Motion.
Tranceformotion.
Trance dance.

See with your Heart. Move with your Spirit.

Using the power of breath, intention, rhythm, music, darkness and your deepest wisdom, you are invited to dance your own personal journey of transformation and healing.

In this seasonally-inspired Tranceformotion  participants are invited to explore the dynamic space within where courage, empowerment and boldness balances with tenderness, compassion, and gentleness as we explore Dancing with a Bold Heart.

Boldness of Heart is true resiliency, a balance of firmness and gentleness. Resiliency gives us the ability to face life. Whatever decision, change or problems that arise, we can address them with faith, love, hope and courage. When we are resilient, we can find the strength within to go forth when difficult situations or decisions are at hand. The more we practice this, the stronger we become.

Due to a scheduling conflict Victoria will not be joined in facilitation of this TranceforMotion by the rhythmic support and blessed music of local drummer and artist Pam Fleenor-Benton as previously stated. Instead, Victoria will be calling on her years of experience with ritual and movement to weave a pre-recorded rhythmic soundscape for your journey of Dancing with a Bold Heart.

A short pre-interview is required of all participants.  Contact Victoria to make arrangements and for registration details.

Pre-registration is also required.  Space is limited.

$40 if before July 24, if space is available. No refunds.

Finding Stability in an Ever Changing World: Movement Fundamentals

As we move through our day, interacting with and responding to our sensations, thoughts and emotions, and reacting and engaging with the Outer world of people, sounds, noises and smells, we can lose our balance. We can feel clumsy, like we are falling off the planet. We can feel stretched so thin that we believe we are in danger of falling apart. At times like this it can feel like we just can’t keep “it” together!

Sound familiar?

Join Victoria for this 90 minute experiential workshop to learn movement fundamentals that will help you reclaim stability in the midst of change and transition! Explore, reconnect and reawaken your body’s internal capacities for moving with a sense of secure groundedness, even in the midst of being pulled in life’s many directions. For more on the framework that supports this work, visit here.

Victoria guest hosts CoMo Ecstatic Dance: Moving with a Bold Heart

In early July, the Columbia Ecstatic Dance Collective will once again be joining together at Yoga Sol to give ourselves to the music and to move freely however the rhythm and moment inspires. We hope you will join us for this enlivening, empowering community movement event.

Victoria Day of Embodiment LLC will be guest facilitator. Calling in inspiration from her experience with and passion for community ritual and movement, she will offer an embodied warm-up and playlist inspired by the intention Moving with a Bold Heart.

General suggested donation is $7-10, $5 for students, and free for kids. If you need an alternative way to contribute, please contact Victoria and she will connect you with the right person!

Victoria shares about the intention:

The intention of Moving with a Bold Heart was inspired by a random scrap of paper with those words on it. For a reason I cannot explain I felt compelled to explore the dynamic qualities of this concept: a bold heart.

As is part of my normal process, this intention has evolved from earlier work, spiritually and professionally, that I have been exploring and offering. In early Spring 2019 I was called to explore the intention of Moving with Fluidity , inviting myself and participants on a journey of moving with the lymphatic, synovial and circulatory systems as well as with the attitude or quality of Flow.

This “let it flow” work morphed into Moving with Flow and Form , exploring how Stability supports Mobility, and likewise, how we need Mobility in order to have Stability. It is all of this, and more, that now flows into my bold heart.

In offering movement inspired by this intention, I am inviting participants to explore the dynamic space that balances courage, empowerment and boldness with tenderness, compassion, and gentleness in our bodies, our movement and our lives.

Moving a Bold Heart.

Each MMG starts with a gentle somatic warm-up inspired by an intention (see below) and is often followed by fun, choreographed movement to upbeat, familiar music.

In early Spring 2019 we explored all the ways we can move our fluidity - awakening our lymphatic system, expanding our capacity to engage Flow, connecting with the fundamental gifts of developmental patterning of Breath and flowing in and out of the Core! In Summer 2019, we will explore ways we move in Space, in our personal space, into the environment, with others.

1 - 2 p.m.

$10 drop-in/please arrive by 12:45 to pay at the register at Heart, Body and Soul. This is a HBS hosted event; however, Victoria is available to offer this movement form in other locations and with other populations.

RAIN OR SHINE!

Join us for Mid Missouri's first time to be involved with this global event dedicated to raising the awareness of the importance of safe drinking water through the language of movement and dance!

Like our planet, our bodies are made up of 70% water. Clean, safe, living water is important to all of us. In our event we raise awareness about the importance of our small tributary, Grindstone Creek, to the safety and health of all the waters of the world! We also invite participants to recognize the healing powers of Water.
For more general information about this world-wide movement, visit Global Water Dances

The ritual & performance piece of this event will start at 3 p.m. We invite you to dress in flowing fabrics and/or in the colors of blue and/or white on this day to invite in your connection with the world’s waters.

We will be meeting to pick up trash and set up the performance site at 2. We would appreciate any help with this!

Because of the nature of parking at this site, we ask folks to hike or bike in from the trail, to park at Capen Park and walk in or to car pool! We want to be kind to all who are using the park on this day! Please bring chairs/blankets for seating, as the audience will be sitting on a grassy hillock! There will be a part of the event where you have the opportunity to cross Grindstone Creek - please bring a walking stick and water shoes!

If you are interested in being a part of this in some way, please contact Victoria by email or phone 573-575-MOVE (6683).

Embodied Communication Practice Group

To “embody” myself means that I slow down and recognize that my body, my breath and tissue, my sensation of self and the environment, is always only in the present moment. To embody allows me to recognize my thoughts, emotions, and spirit in relation to my sensory body, in relation to the present.

Embodiment allows me to better understand my own needs, desires, thoughts, stories, and feelings.

Embodiment helps me to improve and enjoy my relationships with others, staying present even when we can’t see eye to eye.

Embodiment helps connect me to the environment--to be in touch with the earth under my feet, the air that my body breathes, the fire of the sun, and the pull of the waters.

To claim and practice embodiment is a radical form of activism, especially in these difficult times when my impulse and coping tool may be to shut down or turn away--or to be in a constant state of agitation

If this is of interest to you, please read on!

Inspired by her work as a Laban Movement Analyst and influenced by her studies of various somatic traditions, including Bartenieff's Movement Fundamentals, Aposhyan's BodyMind Psychotherapy and Levine's Somatic Experiencing, Victoria offers this monthly study group to support students or new professionals in any service field (counseling, massage, yoga,,pre-med, hair stylist, PT, etc). If you would like the opportunity to practice slowing down, staying present with the sensations of your own body and noticing your thoughts and actions while moving and speaking in relationship with others, please contact Victoria to join this private invitation study group!  Details will be sent upon request.

To make this affordable for students, there is no required flat fee:  there is a suggested donation of $15 - 20 for the two hours.

Global Water Dances PLANNING AND PLAY MEETING

Let’s meet at Grindstone Park to plan for and play with movement for the June 15th Global Water Dances local event!

In this meeting,

we will start out with a bit of connecting Flow movement.

We will then continue to create the opening ritual and the local movement piece right there on the banks of Grindstone Creek using the surrounding land, the bridge, and the water itself in our creative process. We welcome all creative people, we want voices, local movers, local music!

In the administrative part of the meeting, we will follow up on the details around possible small movement events and opportunities to share about Global Water Dances in preparation for the June 15th event (as discussed in the 4/20/19 meeting). We will discuss fundraising, promotion and sound system details! If publicity is your jam, please check out the section entitled: Publicity Tools at this link.

We will also share any information we have about the waters of Grindstone Creek and the related Hinkson Creek that inspires our local dance.

And we will move together!

Here is the video link and the written choreography for the performance art part of this event. We will be playing with/performing this The Story of Water movement choir at this meeting:

We will end the meeting at 11:30 with the participatory movements we will be sharing with the audience in June 15th event. You can find a video of this simple four part movement phrase here.

Please know that our goal with this event is to have fun while moving together and raising awareness about local water.

If you can breathe, you can join us in this movement. We welcome folks with all range of movement ability!
