Embodied Communication Practice Group

To “embody” myself means that I slow down and recognize that my body, my breath and tissue, my sensation of self and the environment, is always only in the present moment. To embody allows me to recognize my thoughts, emotions, and spirit in relation to my sensory body, in relation to the present.

Embodiment allows me to better understand my own needs, desires, thoughts, stories, and feelings.

Embodiment helps me to improve and enjoy my relationships with others, staying present even when we can’t see eye to eye.

Embodiment helps connect me to the environment--to be in touch with the earth under my feet, the air that my body breathes, the fire of the sun, and the pull of the waters.

To claim and practice embodiment is a radical form of activism, especially in these difficult times when my impulse and coping tool may be to shut down or turn away--or to be in a constant state of agitation

If this is of interest to you, please read on!

Inspired by her work as a Laban Movement Analyst and influenced by her studies of various somatic traditions, including Bartenieff's Movement Fundamentals, Aposhyan's BodyMind Psychotherapy and Levine's Somatic Experiencing, Victoria offers this monthly study group to support students or new professionals in any service field (counseling, massage, yoga,,pre-med, hair stylist, PT, etc). If you would like the opportunity to practice slowing down, staying present with the sensations of your own body and noticing your thoughts and actions while moving and speaking in relationship with others, please contact Victoria to join this private invitation study group!  Details will be sent upon request.

Fluidly We Flow Along - Mindful Move Groove

Mindful Move Groove

Fun. Mindful. Energizing. Moving and Grooving.
Mindful Move Groove is an invitation for you to join with a group of folks who are all committed to moving more mindfully and expanding their choices of physical movement. Beginners and all levels of movement abilities welcome!

Mindful Move Groove is accessible and beneficial to a wide range of people - even those who believe they can't "dance." MMG can be done standing or seated, whichever works best for the individual mover!

Each MMG starts with a gentle somatic warm-up inspired by an intention (see below) and is often followed by fun, choreographed movement to upbeat, familiar music.

In Spring 2019 we will continue to explore all the ways we can move our fluidity - awakening our lymphatic system, expanding our capacity to engage Flow, connecting with the fundamental gifts of developmental patterning and learning ways we Exert and Recuperate in our movement!

We are playing with all the ways you can prevent those aches and pains of inflammation that can happen after doing Spring yard work and other similar physical activities! A wonderful practice for anyone with a chronic pain or chronic inflammatory condition!

All the moves we make in MMG are designed to enhance resilience, strength, balance, mood and body awareness without high speed or high intensity movement.

Although we often play with a body of familiar choreographic work and music, each session is also unique and appropriate for any new-comers because Victoria adjusts the material on the fly to meet the needs and the interests of the participants present.

To find out more about what is expected, please visit the Embodiment website here or visit Victoria's blog here

1 - 2 p.m.

$10 drop-in/please arrive by 12:45 to pay at the register at Heart, Body and Soul. This is a HBS hosted event; however, Victoria is available to offer this movement form in other locations and with other populations.

Global Water Dances on KOPN

Please join Embodiment LLC facilitator and KOPN’s Women’s Issues, Women’s Voices programmer Victoria Day as she talks with Marylee Hardenbergh and Vannia Ibarguen about Global Water Dances. Victoria is the local organizer and choreographer for the 1st Mid-Missouri Global Water Dances event, scheduled for June 15, 2019!

The mission of Global Water Dances is to connect and support a global community of choreographers and dancers to inspire action and international collaboration for water issues through the universal language of dance.

This project began as a collective idea of an international group of individuals, all certified by the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS). Together they held decades of experience in producing Movement Choirs which are events that use community dance to create social cohesion through  non-verbalommunication.

Since 2011, Global Water Dances has invited movers all around the globe to join together, every two years, in mid-June to create, dance and act together in their local and global communities, moving in celebration of and protection and advocacy for clean, safe, living water.

Victoria joined this group of folks certified by LIMS in 2017 and is excited to not only be able to bring this sort of community-created movement action to Mid-Missouri, but to have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with several of the leadership team of this global event!

Marylee is the Art Director of this global site-specific performance event. It was her multi-site dance event in 2006, occurring at seven simultaneous sites along the Mississippi River, which was used as the template for GWD.

Vannia is the Artistic Director for GWD. Her focus is in the interaction between performance and technology, and also the relationship between classical, contemporary and folk dance styles.

Embodiment PlayShop: Me. You. Us. Them.

“Embodiment” is the ability to slow down and recognize that your body, your breath and tissue, your sensations of self and the environment, is always only in the present.

Embodiment requires the creative ability to notice and allow the life of the universe to move into and through our bodies, to be present and process it, and to find ourselves in a new relationship with our world.

To "play" means engaging in an activity for enjoyment and fun, to re-create and recuperate, to learn with ease.

Using bits and pieces from the movement forms Express Yourself and Movement Fundamentals we will play with non-verbal communication - exploring what it is to make, break, maintain, flow with, lead and shift energetic connections within ourselves, with other dancers and as a community!

Join with other curious movers as we dance what it is to be: Me. You. Us. Them.

$20 if paid day before event: $25 at the door, check or cash only

Pay by Venmo @EmbodimentLLC or mail check to: Embodiment LLC, P.O. Box 118, Columbia, MO 65205 with the note “Embodiment Play”

Embodiment joins enCHANTment - in Bloomington, IL

enCHANTment is a facilitated experience to foster connection and community through vocalizing together. It shares some aspects of choral singing in that many people are singing chants (simple easily-learnable songs) together but it moves beyond performance and audience to a shared experience that invites all present to participate.

Victoria will be joining her friends from enCHANTment to create a weekend of embodied music-making, drumming, movement and service to Spirit for the Bloomington, IL UU community.

No Mindful Move Groove today!

Thanks for checking into this event! Sorry we can’t dance together today, but please join me after I return from a regenerating break away! While I am gone I will be like the hippos pictured and will be dancing and prancing on the edge of a wave! Looking forward to bringing that energy back home with me!

Next Mindful Move Groove is March 21st!

Mindful Move Groove is a invitation to you to explore your physical movement choices with more awareness! Fun, bodymindful awareness, personal empowerment - these are all words participants have used to describe their experience.

We will continue to play with our new choreography - Feeling Good - with different attitudes and musical support!

Enliven yourself from your toes to your crown chakra, awaken your body as a whole moving system and as interworking systems, learn to support yourself as you move in familiar and new ways, laugh, give up your preciousness, mindfully move and groove and make merry!

Using gentle deep somatic warm-ups and fun, choreographed movement set to upbeat, familiar music, you are invited to not just exercise your body but to do it with confidence, connection and integration!

Beginners welcome. No experience necessary.

Guided Meditation for Accessing Spiritual Information: Embodiment hosts Rev Chuck Fagre

Learn how to create change in your life by accessing your spiritual information!
with Rev Chuck Fagre

In this two-hour guided meditation you will be introduced to the basics of how to:

  • create a safe space for your body so that it will allow you to change

  • become the observer of your spiritual information

  • understand how your spiritual information affects you

  • create change in the information as a spirit-in-a-body

  • create change in your life each day - as above, so below.

  • continue this process in your day-to-day life to find more love, joy, peace and hope as you walk your spiritual path

Learn to safely find ways to say "hello" to places where you get stuck, trying to make the future safe.

Explore being in the present moment, in your heart and in your spirit body, to claim the aliveness of the living your life right where and when you are!

In this two hour meditation, Chuck will draw on his decades of learning and practice to guide us to give attention, to be aware and to let go of those agreements from our pasts that prevent us from living fully in the present!

I have had the pleasure of attending Chuck’s classes for the last several years. He is the real deal. With many years of dedicated practice, Chuck shares his ability to connect with spirit and teaches his students how easy it is to release ourselves from the thoughts and fears that cause us to overreact, over-think and turn our authority over to negative energy that limits our happiness and potential. - Karen Stockman, Happy Human Being!

Rev. Chuck Fagre has been providing spiritual readings, teaching and healing services in Columbia, MO since 2002. While much of his work is in private session, he has also taught classes and workshops and provided spiritual healing services at the Interfaith Center and the Unity Center of Columbia. Chuck is a frequent traveler to the Philippines where he receives and learns spiritual healing from their healers. He is a dedicated learner, continuing his practice each day.

To find out more or to reserve your space, please write Chuck at spiritualleadership.cf@gmail.com or Victoria at embodimentllc@gmail.com

$50 fee is payable to Unity Center at the door by cash or check.

In Effervescent Stillness: Tranceformotion with LIVE DRUMMING

In Effervescent Stillness: Tranceformotion with LIVE DRUMMING

Trance. Form. Motion.
Tranceformotion.
Trance dance.

See with your Heart. Move with your Spirit.
Using the power of breath, intention, the rhythm of live drumming, darkness and your deepest wisdom, you are invited to dance your own personal journey of transformation and healing.

In this seasonally-inspired Tranceformotion we explore possibility and transformation, moving with the metaphor of the flower bulb, lying still under the ice and snow, yet filled with the effervescence of the yet unfulfilled bloom.   Victoria will be joined in facilitation by the rhythmic support and blessed music of local drummer and artist Pam Fleenor-Benton! This intention was inspired by this video on dance, community and collective effervescence!

To determine whether this event might be something for you, ask yourself:

What lies dormant within me that yearns to awaken a bit?
What potential awaits the nurturing of a safe welcoming space to shake off the remnants of the dark?
Am I a willing and excited to be present with stillness as well as with unscripted movement?
What within me do I wish to bless and honor into movement within the support of sacred space?

Please know that a short pre-interview is required of all participants.  Contact Victoria to make arrangements and for registration details.

Pre-registration is also required.  Space is limited.

$20 for those who pre-register by Feb 6th to Embodiment LLC, P.O. Box 118, 65205 OR to Venmo @EmbodimentLLC.

$30 for those who pre-register by Feb 13th
$40 for those who register after Feb 20
